 Steven Jacobs, Senior Associate

Steven Jacobs, Senior Associate Steve joined K. Backus and Associates in 2005 and serves as lead project manager for planning and development projects for the firm’s academic clients.

Steve is currently serving as lead project manager for KBA's work with Cornell University, Collegiate School, and Planned Parenthood Federation of America.  As project manager for KBA's recently completed work with The New School on its University Center project, Steve assisted the University and its development partner to manage programming, design, financial analysis, and community outreach.  Previously, Steve assisted Case Western Reserve University to formulate and implement a development plan for a 14-acre site adjacent to the University’s campus, which included oversight of the developer solicitation and selection process and a feasibility study for a local transportation system. Steve has also worked on several projects for NYU, including serving as lead project manager for KBA’s work related to NYU Abu Dhabi. Steve has also served as project manager for KBA’s assignments with New York Medical College, Harriman Research Technology & Development Corporation, and Amherst College.

Steve came to KBA with extensive expertise in managing large-scale development projects in both the commercial life sciences and transportation fields. Prior to joining K. Backus & Associates, Steve worked for the New York City Economic Development Corporation, where he helped to create New York City’s policy to attract biotechnology companies and to establish a regional approach to building a commercial life sciences cluster. In his capacity as Vice President in the Business Development division, he worked closely with the leadership of New York University, Columbia University, and the State University of New York Downstate Medical College on the development of their respective commercial biotechnology facilities.

As Vice President in the Transportation Division of NYCEDC, Steve was also project manager for a number of real estate and transportation projects, including renewal of the City’s lease to the Port Authority for John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia Airports. Prior to NYCEDC, Steve served as Assistant Director of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Transportation.
