Columbia University Medical Center
2007 Space Planning Initiative

Working with a University Steering Committee, KBA managed a team of architects, consultants, and attorneys to develop a menu of actionable, near-term development options to accommodate the Medical Center’s growth needs for research, education, and residential facilities. KBA analyzed nearly 70 potential development sites, including sites owned by the University, New York Presbyterian Hospital, the City of New York, and private owners. Based on this analysis, KBA developed a comprehensive plan for the Medical Center’s growth that was both politically and economically feasible and did not rely on discretionary land use approvals. KBA also developed a plan to attract retail and other amenities to the Medical Center.
