Amherst College Lord Jeffery Inn 
Amherst College retained KBA in 2009 to analyze the potential of a
developer partnership for the renovation and expansion of the
College-owned Lord Jeffery Inn. KBA worked with a College-organized
committee and hotel consultant to draft a Request for Qualifications and a
Request for Proposals and to valuate responses received from potential
hotel developers and operators. In addition, KBA developed an analytic
framework for determining the optimal financing and transaction structure
for the rehabilitation of this historic inn, analyzing numerous renovation
and financing options involving a developer partner and comparing these to
a wholly College-financed and developed project. KBA’s work was
instrumental in providing Amherst’s leadership with the financial and
qualitative analysis needed for its decision-making. The Board of
Trustees elected to proceed with an optimized College-financed renovation
of the Lord Jeffery Inn, which successfully reopened in late 2011.
