Case Western Reserve University
West Quad Bioscience Research Park

KBA was retained by Case’s School of Medicine in 2004 to guide the planning and development process for a 14-acre, University-owned site located in the University Circle section of Cleveland. KBA assisted Case to develop a plan for approximately 2 million square feet of academic and commercial biotechnology facilities to support collaborative research projects by the leading health care institutions in Cleveland. To inform this effort, KBA completed a study of academic/private research parks in the United States and introduced Case to the leading developers of life sciences facilities. KBA prepared and issued a Request for Qualifications to select a developer and master planner for the West Quad, and worked closely with Case in the selection of a development team. KBA assisted Case to negotiate a development agreement with Forest City Enterprises. Case put the project on hold due to budgetary and leadership issues.
